🚗 Driving licence in Brussels: first-aid training abolished from 15 August 2026
An important change will soon affect candidates seeking to obtain a category B driving licence in the Brussels-Capital Region.
From 15 August 2026, first-aid training will no longer form part of the compulsory Brussels driving-licence process.
🩹 What did the rules previously require?
Since 2018, candidates completing their category B driving training in Brussels have been required to complete a first-aid course.
One of the aims of this course was to teach future drivers the initial steps to take when faced with victims of a road traffic accident.
✅ What is changing?
The Order of the Government of the Brussels-Capital Region of 9 July 2026:
- abolishes the provisions governing first-aid training;
- removes all references to this training from the conditions relating to the driving test;
- abolishes the requirement to present the corresponding certificate.
The change officially enters into force on 15 August 2026. 📅
From that date, first-aid training may therefore no longer be required as part of the Brussels procedure for obtaining a category B driving licence.
⚠️ Different rules in each Region
In Belgium, driver training and the organisation of driving tests fall within the competence of the Regions. The applicable rules may therefore differ depending on whether a candidate takes the driving test in Brussels, Wallonia or Flanders.
It is therefore important to check the rules applicable in the Region where the driving test will be taken. 📍
