Phone use while driving
According to the law, it is forbidden to drive while holding a cell phone.
What does the law say about phones while driving?
Obviously, a phone that is hands-free or any system that allows you to make a call without using your hands can be used.
However, texting with your phone while driving, watching a video with your phone while driving, or even just holding your phone in your hand will constitute the offence.
Article 8.3 of the Royal Decree on general traffic regulations states that a cell phone may not be used by the driver of a vehicle while being held in the hand.
What do you risk if you use your mobile phone while driving?
The penalties will be a fine and/or a visit to the police court with even greater penalties.
In addition to the fine, the police court can also impose a driving disqualification, the obligation to retake the theoretical and practical driving tests or to undergo medical and psychological tests.
It all depends on the case in question as well as on your past history.
